I joined the Green Club at my high school in the 2nd quarter of school, and if you are considering joining it, here’s a bit on what to expect.
First of all, my club has relatively short meetings on Tuesdays. They typically last for 20-30 minutes and we discuss events and talk about what we can do in the future. For example, at our recent meeting, we discussed an upcoming event called Waterfest, a city-wide event in which our school does demonstrations to educate kids on water.
In addition, our Green Club adopted a local beach and we do beach cleanups about 4-5 times a year. We actually just did a beach cleanup 2 days ago- the experience was really fun and rewarding. Even if you don’t have a Green Club at your school, this is a great activity to do on your own time (if you live near the beach). It’s easy, fun, and a great way to get service hours.
Some other topics to cover: our Green Club is currently putting in a butterfly garden on-campus, we are making skits for Earth Day to put on our school’s daily “Bulldog Brief”, and we do other seasonal activities (ex. candy wrapper collecting in October/November to prevent littering).
Overall, Green Club is a really chill, cool club with lots of opportunities to help the environment. I would definitely recommend joining, as it is an easy way to get involved at your school.
